National Fossil Day

The National Park Service and the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History are planning a premiere National Fossil Day event on October 13, 2010, on the National Mall. This event will take place during the day, and local school groups will be invited. Park rangers and Smithsonian staff will be leading activities, but we are also looking for paleontologists to volunteer their assistance.  This could include displaying local fossils, talking about career paths in paleontology, assisting with fossil “digs,” etc. For more information contact Hal Banks (BANKSH@si.edu) or Kathy Hollis (HollisK@si.edu) at the Smithsonian. If you would like to volunteer contact Victoria Stauffenberg (Victoria_Stauffenberg@nps.gov) at George Washington Memorial Parkway.
