AIPG: Karst trip

The next meeting of the Virginias Section of the American Institute of Professional Geologists will be held on Saturday, September 8 in Northern Virginia.   Items to be discussed in the business section of the meeting are membership and participation, recent developments with the Virginia Professional Geologist registration program, registration in West Virginia, and your concerns for communication to the national officers at the upcoming Annual Meeting in Rapid City, SD.  The business meeting will be followed by lunch and a field trip.

12:00 – 1:00      Lunch and first stop of Potomac Marble Karst Field Trip (Bring $10 for a sub lunch from Jimmy Johns. Sodas and water provided.)

1:00 – 4:00 (?)  Potomac Marble Karst Field Trip

Steve Stokowski and Dan Doctor (USGS) will lead the karst field trip in and around Leesburg, VA.  It will highlight and discuss  the Loudoun County Limestone Area  District. Stops will include sinkholes at the Temple Hall Farm, the largest spring in the Leesburg area, the site where a large geophysical survey detected major subsurface karst features,  amazing outcrops at Ida Lee Park, and  caves in Balls Bluff.
