Trip Organizers:
Steve Stokowski & Dave Fenster
ABSTRACT:
AEG-BWH is having a karst geology field trip in and around Leesburg, VA. It will highlight and discuss the Loudoun County Limestone Area District. The caves and karst in eastern Loudoun County are developed in the Potomac Marble, an unusual and beautiful limestone conglomerate historically used for dimension stone. Stops will include:
1)Sinkholes and an arch at Temple Hall Farm
2)The largest spring in the Leesburg area
3)The site where a large geophysical survey detected major subsurface karst features
4)Amazing outcrops at Ida Lee Park
5)Caves in Balls Bluff.
Included are lunch, soft drinks, and a field trip guide written by Steve, Dan Doctor (USGS), and Dave Fenster (Bechtel).

Cost: $40/person (checks or cash accepted at start of field trip
